About Us

The North Oaks Hill Farm Historical Society (HFHS), is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation established in 1989 to restore and preserve the three remaining buildings on 5.6 acres of James J. Hill North Oaks Farm.

HFHS relies on volunteers to carry on its responsibilities, programs and events. Opportunities to participate in a broad range of activities are available. In addition, volunteers can undertake a project of their own choosing, research and restore artifacts including historic farm equipment, help to prepare exhibits, and plan special events.

The building and farm site are on the National Register of Historic Places. Guided tours are available by appointment. Self-guided tour brochures are available on the door of the dairy building.

Hill Farm Historical Society's Mission Statement

The Hill Farm Historical Society's mission is to share the rich and unique history of James J. Hill's North Oaks Farm through preservation of the Hill Farm National Historic Site, and, to tell the story of the role the farm played in the development of agriculture and Hill's Great Northern Railroad from Minnesota to the Pacific Northwest.
