Car Theft on the Rise - Be Cautious

I want your car… But I don’t want to pay for it!

Auto theft is on the rise across the country, in Minnesota and even in North Oaks. Perpetrators are on the look out for easy targets. These are cars left open, especially cars left running. Recent attempts have been made at all hours of the day. When a car is left running, particularly in the winter, would-be thieves can notice this easily via the exhaust signature. One look to see if there is anyone in the vehicle, and within seconds they can be headed toward Highway 35… in your car! In addition, your home can be at risk too if perpetrators gain access to garage door openers left in an open vehicle.

Often times, perpetrators look for running cars to steal by driving slowly through the neighborhood with other would-be offenders in the same vehicle. Let’s avoid being easy targets and look out for our neighbors. Please call 911 to report any suspicious activity in timely manner.
