What to do after a Severe Storm

Severe Weather

A few reminders on what to do in the aftermath of severe storm events:

  • Do not approach any downed power lines as they may be live and pose a safety hazard.
  • If your power is out, report the outage to Excel Energy immediately HERE. You can also check the status of your ticket, view the outage map, and view additional checklists for safety here: Outage and Safety | Xcel Energy
  • View Power Outages | Ready.gov for helpful tips for preparing for or recovering after a storm, when food should be disposed after an outage, and more.
  • Trees on roads, blocking road access or on power lines should be reported to 911 as a safety hazard and Mel’s Services will be dispatched. All other non-emergency downed trees should be reported to the landowner to address. If the tree is on NOHOA property or on trails, please contact RowCal’s Care Team at 651-233-1307 or CareTeam@rowcal.com and they will be addressed based on impact level. Please note any after hour calls regarding downed trees that are non-emergency will be addressed the following day.
  • Check in with vulnerable neighbors to see if they need assistance.
  • Need assistance with removal of fallen trees? Consult the following list of tree arborist companies that have been certified and licensed to do work in the City of North Oaks. Visit: 2023 Licensed Arborists in North Oaks | City of North Oaks, MN (northoaksmn.gov)
  • Brush and other yard waste can be disposed of at local Ramsey County yard waste sites: Yard Waste | Ramsey County
  • Brush and tree fires are allowed in the City of North Oaks, however permits are required through the Lake Johanna Fire Department. More information on burn permits and regulations is available here: Permits - Burn Permit Required (ljfd.org)
  •  Consider sharing pictures of tree damage and clean up efforts with the North Oaks News publication, by emailing: northoaksnews@presspubs.com

City Hall does not have the status of power outages, but please contact us with any other questions at 651-792-7750 or northoaks@northoaksmn.gov.
