I'm new to North Oaks - What now?

Just closed on your new home in North Oaks?  Great!!  You may be asking, what do I do next?  Here's a short checklist with helpful links:

  • View short summary on the difference between our unique City and the North Oaks Homeowners Association so you know who to call for what.
  • Set up utilities:  Call Excel Energy to set up Gas/Electric - #800-895-4999
  • Set up Garbage.  Residents can select their own garbage provider, unless you are part of a sub-association that coordinates 1 haulers for the entire community. The most frequency used trash haulers are Walters, Waste Management or Republic.  Refer here for contact #'s for trash haulers.
  • Recycling is a Citywide contract.  Simply put the recycling cart left behind by former homeowner (black can/blue lid with recycle logo on the side) at the curb by 7 a.m. on your recycling day.  Recycling pick up is each week. The recycling fee is on homeowners taxes, you will not see a bill for it.  More info on recycling is HERE.
  • Water / Sewer service is specific to each home.  Some have private well/septic, others have Shoreview water or White bear township water and sewer. Contact City Hall if you are unsure the type service your home receives. City Hall is 651-792-7750.
  • Internet / T.V.- residents can choose your preferred provider. Frequenty used: Xfinity, Comcast, Centurylink.  There is no Citywide "dark fiber".
  • Sign up HERE for weekly City Eblast for the most current happenings in the City. This weekly newsletter is sent via email on Friday's from the "City of North Oaks".
  • If you are doing either interior or exterior work to your home, your contractors can apply for appropriate building permits online. The City Building inspectors review and inspect work to ensure it meets Minnesota state code and City ordinances.
  • If you are doing EXTERIOR work to your home you will also need to submit an application to the North Oaks Homeowners Association Architectural Supervisory Committee (ASC) for review.
  • Get outside and enjoy the area! Reach out to the Homeowners Association help desk 651-233-1307 or careteam@rowcal.com to request trail maps (they will validate your residency).  You will also receive a welcome informational packet from the Homeowners Association. ** Reminder: Due to the private nature of our roads (residents own to the centerline of each road), non-residents must be with a resident when on our private trails.
  • NOHOA contracts with Mel's Services to provide all road maintenance services.  Snowplow question or issues? Contact NOHOA help desk (see above).
  • Consider getting involved with one of our vibrant North Oaks Community Organizations
  • Want to keep in the loop on what's going on in our city and upcoming events? The City, NOHOA and other various community groups submit information to the independently published North Oaks News. This physical newspaper comes in your mailbox the 1st of each month. Call the circulation department of Press Publications at 651-407-1234 to ensure your home is on the list for the North Oaks News.  This is a free paper (donations welcomed :-).   *All North Oaks City Public Hearing or Ordinance Notices will be published in the Shoreview Press newspaper which is published bi-weekly...this should automatically be in your mailbox.
